Spirited guide

That ultimate travel tome – Lonely Planet – has given Tasmania’s world-class spirits a big wrap, not to mention invaluable international exposure! Seven Tasmanian distilleries have made the cut to feature in Lonely Planet’s Global Distillery Tour guide that was published this month. And, considering only 24 Australian distilleries made the grade in the 264-page book, that means Tasmania is punching well above its weight! The featured local distilleries are Lark, Sullivans Cove, Shene Estate, Hellyers Road, McHenry, Old Kempton and Hartshorn. Meanwhile, this is the perfect month to raise a glass, or two, to the world’s favourite spirit. May 18 was world whisky day. But if you missed that celebration, don’t despair. You have a whole seven days in August to indulge in your favourite local whisky when we celebrate Tasmanian Whisky Week.
