Floating a dream

A hotel that floats on water? Hanging off the banks of Hobart’s River Derwent? It sounds like an impossible dream. But, with Tasmanian architectural maestro Robert Morris-Nunn steering this project, it could just become reality. His proposal is to build a floating hotel near the city’s regatta grounds. The five-storey, ring-shaped structure would be a world first if it went ahead. Morris-Nunn has already dipped his toe in the water, with the technological groundwork trialled in his floating Brooke Street Pier. And, for this visionary – who created the stingray shaped building that has become one of Tasmania’s iconic images – it appears turning dreams into reality is all in a day’s work.
